  • Japan-Korea co-operate study of citizenship education as the human rights education utilized judgment material, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(基盤研究(C)),   2008  - 2010 , Masanobu UMENO, In this study we expect in a learning process to promote citizenship, and confirmation and the understanding of the public judgment. For this study, we developed the teaching materials using child abuse, bullying,sexual harassment, the Libel in the Internet, Hansen's disease, Minamata disease on the basis of progress of the human rights education in our country. We had selected nationwide problems or the familiar problems, and we used same judgment materials on Japan and a Korean elementary and junior high school.
  • The Study and Investigation of the teachers'practicies in postwar Japan, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(基盤研究(B)),   2007  - 2009 , Yoshikazu USUI, (summary)Our study have 3 themes.The 1st theme is Curriculum Study to come to grips with fundamental problems in Japan society.The 2 nd theme is the study of three Social Studies Plans presented by 3 groups in the association of Life EducationThe 3 rd theme is the study of the Curriculum Plan presented by the Japan Teachers Union.The products of the study are 6 material pamphlets and 1 monograph pamphlet.
  • A fundamental general study of the history education that aimed at the Japan-Korea mutual understanding, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(基盤研究(C)),   2006  - 2007 , Satoshi KAMADA, The summary and the results of this study are the five points below.(1) Research and survey was conducted on history teachers about awareness in Japan-Korea history in both countries. In result, two-points were evident.1) Japanese history teachers are more aware and feel the importance in memorizing historical events due to academic abilities for examination purposes.2) Korean history teachers are more aware of the importance in characteristics and reasoning as to why history is important, and contended with history education practice.(2) Compare and contrast of history textbook statements that take consideration in history-science findings and Japan-Korea student's consciousness to the reality of history.(3) Field investigation and resource acquisition in Korea, and basic research for development of teaching materials.(4) With(1)-(3) research outcome, planned a coursework document for mutual understanding between Japan and Korea, and practiced it in a Japanese middle school. In the result; "1. Students need to acknowledge that history requires a multidirectional point of view through concrete, learning activities. 2. Setting a learning place for signification in linking Japan and Korea's present and the past." Calling out for these results in history education practice felt effective in aiming for mutual understandings between Japan and Korea.(5) Publication of research results in the fiscal year 2007We held a symposium on Japan-Korea history education in February 2008. We summed up two-years of research outputs and confirmed prospects considering future research from here on.
  • A comprehensive stress management education program for the prevention of bullying., Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(基盤研究(B)),   2004  - 2007 , Hiroshi YAMANAKA, The purpose of this study was to show the effects of a comprehensive stress management program on the prevention of bullying. The results of a questionnaire given to 433 junior high school pupils in 2004 showed that pupils who had higher scores on the perceived social-support questionnaire had a lower ratio of having experienced being bullied. This result suggests that facilitating a good classmate climate to be able to perceive social support through stress management education has the possibility of reducing the experience of being bullied in the classroom.33 second grade pupils (18 boys and 15 girls)in Kagoshima City underwent the comprehensive stress management program consisting of progressive relaxation, pair-relaxation and mental rehearsal for daily hassles for 50 minutes once a week in their classroom, a total of 9 times from November 2005 to February 2006. They had to answer the Classmate-Climate-Questionnaire, the Bullying-Questionnaire and the School-Stress-Responses Questionnaire pre- and post-intervention. The sub-scores of questionnaire were analyzed in a 2 (boy, girl) X 2 (pre, post)factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA). The chief findings were as follows: (1) The scores of a positive classmate climate increased through the stress management program. (2) The scores of experiencing being bullied decreased through the same program.In addition, 262 first grade pupils also in Kagoshima City underwent stress management education consisting of progressive relaxation, and human rights education utilizing a civil action judgment about bullying cases for 50 minutes once a week in 6 classrooms, a total of 2 times in February 2007. They had to answer the same questionnaire as given in 2006. There was no significant difference on experiencing being bullied between the stress management education and the human rights education.These results suggest that comprehensive stress management education over a long term has effects for the prevention of pupil's experiencing being bullied.
  • Development of the decision book use text for teacher training that promotes normal standard based on human rights education., Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(基盤研究(C)),   2004  - 2006 , Masanobu UMENO, This study is a research that makes and uses the material that can be used to improve the good consciousness normal consideration valuing the dignity of the life.This material is the one that making by using the trial material relates to the school.I used this material at a some schools for these three years, and I have been announced by book and "Law co mmon sense for an educational executive ", oreover, it used it in the academic society, training of teachers c enter "human rights education", the human rights commissioner training of the Kagoshima District Legal Affair s Bureaus, and in-service training of teachers at some schools in the Kagoshima prefecture.This report collects the training of teachers material in the first half, the teaching practice record is collecte d in the latter half, and a theoretical explanation is added.

The result is carried in the report.

  • A Study Analysis of Social Studies at the period under Occupation after War, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research(一般研究(C)),   1993  - 1995 , Masanobu UMENO, This study deal with the Japanese History Textbook for Lower Secondary School at the later period under occupation.On this piriod (1947-1950), Department of Education held the Committee of Revision of Japanese History Textbook for Lower Secondary school (1947.11)This committee's member discussed the style and content of the education of Japanese history in Social Studies.And this committee's draft had not be approved of GHQ・CIE finally, however, some members of this committee published "History of Japan" and an member published the textbook "Growth of Japan".This study mainly analyzed of committee itself and it's draft, still more, considerd these three Japanese History's mutualrelationship.
